Curriculum
Vision and Principles
Our curriculum offers a dynamic, inclusive, and creative educational experience that celebrates diversity, nurtures each student’s potential, and equips them with the skills, knowledge, and resilience to thrive in life. We strive to foster a strong sense of belonging, self-worth, and the confidence needed to engage with the wider world.
Students are assessed on entry so that they have access to a highly personalised education package which enables them to work towards a level of certification or qualification consistent with their circumstances, abilities and interests.

Curriculum Aims
-
Inclusivity: Ensure every student, regardless of their background, learning style, or ability, feels valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
-
Creativity: Inspire innovative thinking, self-expression, and problem-solving through a rich blend of academic, artistic, and practical learning experiences.
-
Diversity: Embed diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences in all aspects of learning, promoting mutual respect, empathy, and understanding.

Curriculum Structure
Core Curriculum (Flexible and Personalised)
Our core curriculum is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, providing foundational skills while offering the flexibility for deeper exploration of personal interests and abilities.
- English Language: Preparation for Functional Skills and GCSEs, with a focus on developing literacy, critical thinking, and communication. The curriculum includes a diverse range of texts from various cultures, voices, and genres to ensure representation and engagement.

AQA Awards Scheme
The AQA Awards scheme is a crucial part of the curriculum, recognising and validating learners’ skills and achievements across a broad range of academic, well-being and vocational subjects. These awards provide a nationally recognised benchmark of excellence, boosting students’ confidence, employability, and credibility with employers and educational institutions.

Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHE) and Citizenship
This subject covers mental health and well-being, healthy relationships, diversity and inclusion, financial literacy, and responsible citizenship. Delivered through workshops, guest speakers, and real-life projects, it engages students in relevant learning experiences.Â
Post-16 progression routes are integrated into PSHE, educating students on opportunities after Year 11. Lessons are tailored to different interests, abilities, and career aspirations, covering options such as A-levels, vocational qualifications like BTECs, NVQs, and apprenticeships. Students are encouraged to develop employability skills and identify their strengths for a smooth transition into post-16 pathways.

Vocational and Life Skills
-
Vocational Training: Provides pathways in areas such as construction, hair and beauty, hospitality, IT, and sport, enabling students to gain practical skills and qualifications for future employment. Incorporating horticulture allows students to develop sustainable practices, a strong work ethic, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in agriculture, landscaping, environmental management, and green industries.
